talenttrends Team Skills

See what your team can do.

talenttrends Team Skills gives managers, learning leads and HR business partners an overview of their team’s skills and proficiency levels — strengths, gaps, coverage — in four interactive visualisations, from the radar comparison of individuals to the team-wide skill heatmap. Live from the talenttrends Data Hub. No more thousand-row skill report, pivoted by hand in Excel.

The problem

The skill data is there. It’s just not usable.

Cornerstone knows which skills your team has and at what level. But the information is scattered across user profiles, capability models and proficiency reports. A manager who wants to know who is qualified for a new project, or where the competency gaps lie, exports a report and pivots it in Excel — or builds their own chart in PowerPoint.

Skill report to Excel, pivoted by hand

The route to a team overview goes via a thousand-row report that is then prepared manually. Out of date the day after export.

A new PowerPoint chart every quarter

Anyone who wants to visualise the competency picture rebuilds it by hand every quarter — the same work, again and again.

Comparing two employees means reformatting

To place two skill profiles side by side, data has to be re-sorted by hand. Too laborious for a quick project staffing.

One fixed view, no drill-down

Standard reports show a table — but they don’t let you zoom into a skill category, overlay two profiles or make structural patterns visible.

What you see with it

Four visualisations, four questions, one screen.

The same skill data, four angles — each tailored to a different question. You select team and skills once, all four visualisations update together.

Profile comparison (radar)

Two or more employees overlaid on the same skill axes. Strengths, gaps and complementarities at a glance. Best for one-to-one comparisons and the question of who complements whom for a project.

Skill matrix (heatmap)

Employees on one axis, skills on the other, colour intensity shows the proficiency level. The most information-dense view — whole teams of 50+ people on one screen. Best for team overview and gap detection.

Skill overview (treemap)

Proportional areas by competency mass per skill, with drill-down into skill categories and capability models. Best for understanding where competency density sits — and where investment is needed.

Skill flow (Sankey)

Flow diagram between team members, skill clusters and proficiency levels. Makes structural patterns visible that tables hide — such as which skills depend on individual people.

How it works

Connect, embed, analyse

01

Connect

Team Skills connects to your Cornerstone portal via the official Cornerstone data interfaces — either via direct API access or via the talenttrends integration from the Cornerstone Edge Marketplace. Skill and competency data land in the talenttrends Data Hub, which the visualisations work on.

02

Embed

Embedded in your Cornerstone portal as a custom page. Single sign-on via Cornerstone itself — no second login. You determine who may see Team Skills via the visibility rules of the custom page — typically managers and HR business partners.

03

Analyse

Select a team (direct and indirect reports), select skills (by individual skill, by status or by capability model) — and navigate through the four visualisations. Every manager sees only their own team. Charts can be exported as an image for presentations.

The technology

Four charts, one engine, milliseconds

Team Skills runs in productive Cornerstone projects where we take responsibility ourselves. This is what’s behind it.

Live from the Data Hub

Team Skills works against your replicated data foundation, not against Cornerstone live APIs. No API throttling, no rate limits, full performance even during Cornerstone maintenance windows.

Read-only and parameterised

Fixed, versioned queries that ship with the application — not generated at runtime, not changeable via the interface. Strictly read-only. Team Skills cannot change data under any circumstances.

Limited to the team

Every query is limited to the direct and indirect reports of the logged-in manager. A manager sees their team — never the whole organisation. Enforced server-side, not via the interface.

No AI of our own

Team Skills calculates nothing in advance — it visualises your Cornerstone data. Where Cornerstone itself provides AI estimates (predicted proficiency), Team Skills shows them for what they are: estimates, clearly recognisable — and, if you wish, hidden entirely.

Fast through one engine

All four visualisations render from a single, proven engine — consistent interaction (hover, zoom, pan, image export) across all chart types. Intelligent caching of the rarely changing catalogues and targeted, team-limited queries keep typical views at milliseconds.

No third party, no data leak

The visualisations render via a single authenticated channel — no third-party CDN fetches, no telemetry leaks, no transmission of data to third-party services.

Prerequisites

What you should coordinate with us

Team Skills shows which skills individual team members have and at what level — personal data, close to performance assessment. A clean rollout takes three points into account that we clarify together with you during onboarding.

Cornerstone setup

Team Skills needs data access to your Cornerstone portal — either via activated Cornerstone data interfaces and a dedicated service account, or via the talenttrends integration from the Cornerstone Edge Marketplace. The latter is the faster route, because authentication and scope are pre-configured.

Team scope and audience

Every manager is restricted from the outset to their own team — direct and indirect reports, never the whole organisation. Via Cornerstone’s visibility rules, you additionally narrow down who may open Team Skills. And via the Data Hub configuration, you determine which columns appear at all — anyone who doesn’t want to show the predicted proficiency scores, for example, excludes that column at replication level.

Co-determination, permitted use & estimates

In Germany, the introduction typically triggers co-determination rights for the works council. The contract also stipulates: Team Skills is a planning and development aid, not an assessment system — competency data must not serve as a basis for personnel decisions, no profiling. Where Cornerstone’s predicted scores are shown, users must know that these are statistical estimates, not validated assessments. We provide the documentation for the works council consultation; you lead the conversation.

Deployment

Your data, your infrastructure

Team Skills runs on the talenttrends platform and follows its three hosting paths — from our cloud to your own data centre.

SaaS with talessio

Fully operated by us. Fastest time-to-value. Hosting in Azure Germany West Central or with STACKIT — EU data residency, Schrems II-compliant.

In your cloud
